Planetside 2 Case study

  2. What genre does the game belong to? MMO FPS
  3. Planetside 2 developer/publisher: The game was developed by Sony Online Entertainment.
  4. When was it launched? The game was released on November 20, 2012
  5. How does the gameplay work? You download the game, sign in and play.
  6. What are the six different player classes in the game? The Infiltrator,The Light Assault,The Combat Medic,The Engineer,The Heavy Assault and The MAX 
  7. What is the story or narrative to the game? War between three different teams fighting for what they believe is right. 

Business model
Now look at the section on the Planetside 2 business model.
  1. How much does Planetside 2 cost to play? Planetside 2 is free to play.
  2. What does a subscription offer to players? It offers them more maps, guns , health and other player upgrades. 
  3. What can the in-game currency be used to buy?The currency can be used to buy player upgrades.
  4. Why do some players dislike games in which users can buy additional weapons or health? Some players don't have credit cards and their parents don't let them use theirs.It give other player advantages witch can make the game unfair as well.

The three factions
Summarise the three factions that players can join in the game:

The Terran Republic:  The Terran Republic are and value .Proud, honour and Duty
The Vanu Sovereignty:The Vanu Sovereignty are and value  Wisdom , Truth and Enlightenment
The New Conglomerates:The New Conglomerates are and value Freedom , Fight and Rebels

Write a possible target audience demographic for Planetside 2 in general:
Gender 65% male and 35% female/age 16-35/social class/education/employment student and mid class jobs/location city some countryside etc.

Now write a target audience demographic for each faction from Planetside 2 – it will be similar to the overall target audience but think carefully about changes in age, education or employment:

The Terran Republic.age 28-25.Good job.have a lot of money.Well educated.Most likely to own expensive products ig BMW , expensive house.

The Vanu Sovereignty.age 22-27.Decent job.Work for an average wage.not to well educated.Have normal , expected items. 

The New Conglomerates. age 16-21.Students.No much money, they dont work as they are rebels.Getting educated.They have most teen age product ig xbox, iphone or blackberry.

Now use what you have learned about psychographic profiling to choose potential psychographic groups for each of the three factions:

The Terran Republic:Resigned.They follow the law and are happy how everything is and they dont want a change.

The Vanu Sovereignty:Succeeders , they know what they want.

The New Conglomerates:Reformers and Explorers.They whant to see change and newthings.

Explain why those psychographic groups would fit that particular faction.

The model is a young female dressed in a bikini .This is supposed to grab the attention of the viewer by using a attractive female character.She is taking a picture with her phone, thats why she is posing in this way as she is trying to pose the  phone in her hand not to the main camera. The game was featured in the xbox 360 magazine.This is important way to promote the game as gamers that read the magazine will gain awareness and knowledge of the game and its existence.As a result GTA V  will be more know and hopefully get more sales.

This was an important way to promote the game as YouTube is one of the most used sites in the whole world.This means that the awareness of the existence of the game is higher .As a result more people should see the trailer , meaning that more people should be interested in buying the game which will increase the sales.Also a lot of old fans of the GTA series are regular users of YouTube as well as other gamers. This should give the fans a taste of what the game is like .If they enjoy the game and find it attractive they are most likely to buy it.
The game also had many reviews done, but one of the most popular and most listened to by gamers  was done by IGN and Machinema (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UB5hpk0iqg  , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lNl6ZkMDoc ). The game was rated 10 out of 10.This is extremely beneficial for GTA V  as if any people had seconds thought they are almost persuaded that the game is great and a “must have”.This should help the game sell more copies, however if the game had bad reviews the sales would be significantly smaller  , fortunately for GTA V  all the reviews where positive.
The official wbsite of GTA V  attracts its audience by having a specific section that just focuses on GTA V.Its maintains the intrest of its audience by  having new tips and trick that the fans can cheack up on everyday.One aspects that i found intresting is that you can find tips on anything in tha game, starting from where to buy clothes to what car drive.This is almost like real life as you have tips on almost anything and you can read and find out new things almost about everything.
The game has an official YouTube channel called Rockstar Games (https://www.youtube.com/user/RockstarGames ) Manny users have played and uploaded gameplay of the games on YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOxuNbXrO28 )This helps to promote the game as subscribers of the YouTubers channel get to see the game and might become a fan of GTA.The game has 1.9 million likes on facebook. The facebook wall feature videos of user uploaded content. This appeals to the target audience as the content is something that people that play the game will enjoy , for example funny videos and montages.The most used GTA V hashtags are : #GTA, #GTAV, #GTA5 AND #gtaFAIL etc...The game used famous people to promote the game on twitter by posting on their own profile about the game and by hashtaging.
